I was doing some lakewatching late this afternoon from the new Lakeland Centre
Tower at Van Wagner's Beach in east Hamilton along with Barry Cherriere,
Brandon Holden and Lauren Rae.

At about 4:40pm Brandon looked to the east and spotted three flapping / soaring
jaegers a few hundred feet above the QEW. All noted the slim appearance and
tern-like flight as the trio flew about in circular fashion, going south until
they were lost over the escarpment. They all appeared to be light-intermediate
type (morph) juveniles.

It was remiss of me to fail to report another LTJ observation recently. These
were two, an apparent juvenile and an adult lacking elongated central
rectrices. Both of these were seen from this same location, flying offshore on
Saturday afternoon August 26, when I was in the company of Barry and Linda
Cherriere.

Directions : To reach Van Wagner's Road, take the Centennial Parkway exit from
the QEW and proceed north to Van Wagner's Road. The Lakeland Centre Tower is
one to two hundred metres west of Hutch's Restaurant which is west of
Centennial.

Hello Ontbirders

Britannia Conservation area continues to be very productive, especially
with songbird migration.
This morning, large numbers were moving through, including 17 species
of warbler. Magnolia, Nashville and Yellow-rumped dominated the flocks.
Other interesting things included 2 Philadelphia Vireos, a male Merlin
and a Solitary Sandpiper. Most interesting was a heavily worn Carolina
Wren, along the southwest trail near the residential area of Britannia
Road.
