Today the conditions at VanWagner's, were the same as yesterday, with a brisk NE wind blowing. We were positioned up top of the new observation tower located just west of the old Hutch's location. It felt like it was October up there. But when you saw something good you would forget about the strong wind and how cool your were feeling. At 11:37 Jim Heslop, Bob Stamp, Don Perks, Dan Salsbury, Linda and I saw a Sabine's Gull being harassed by a juv. Bonaparte's Gull close to the wave tower (the yellow structure that the cormorants rest on). Then at 3:09 Jim Cram, Maris Apse, Linda and I saw a Black-legged Kittiwake, again near that yellow wave tower.
Directions to Van Wagner's Beach: >From the QEW highway coming from the west, take the Woodward Ave exit; turn right at the stoplight at the end of the ramp; turn right at the next lights onto Beach Blvd, go under the QEW, then turn right again at the lights onto Van Wagner's Beach Rd. Continue about 1 km to the parking lots near Hutch's Restaurant. >From the QEW coming from the east, take the Hwy 20 exit (Centennial Parkway); go north to the North Service Rd; turn left at the lights; continue east as the road bends right then left and becomes Van Wagner's Beach Dr; continue about 1 km to the parking lots near Hutch's Restaurant. Best regards, Barry & Linda Cherriere
