Sunday, August 13, 2006 Went to Nagara Falls early this AM to look for
this Ontario bird for me. Got there at 7:20 AM, and there it was, actively
feeding in the shallows close in. There were two photographers there, and
we were discussing the bird when one of the photogs noticed another
Tricolored Heron on a rock a little further out in the faster water. This
second bird is an adult as well, with the whitish head plume perhaps a
little less obvious than the first bird. The two-for-one special. George
Naylor.
Directions as previously stated; Niagara Parkway upriver from the falls.
Park free at the south entrance to Dufferin Island. Walk a little bit
downriver, just north of the small inlet building, to the first park bench
at the river edge, in the small parkette between the inlet building and the
larger building to the north. The two herons were feeding in the shallows
close to shore
