Last Sunday while cycling along Weston Road, Mike Van den Tillaart had a Common Raven on the hydro tower just north of 16th Sdrd. (this is about 4 kms south of the Pottageville/Kettleby Road). When he and I were cycling the same route this morning, he pointed out the tower on the east side of the road. As if on cue, the raven flew in from the west and landed on one of the metal crossbars. We stopped and watched him for a few minutes until a Red-winged Blackbird harrassed him enough that he flew east and out of sight. Weston Road parallels Hwy. 400, running N-S between Woodbridge and Hwy. 9. This past Thursday evening I was cycling north on Warden Avenue east of Aurora and had a Northern Goshawk cross the road right in front of me (about 3-4 feet off the ground) just south of the Aurora/Wellington Road. I'd heard Goshawk calling from the Henderson regional forest earlier in the season but had not actually seen one of them; this male confirmed their presence. The Henderson tract is on the east side of Warden Ave. Ron Fleming, Newmarket From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Jun 17 16:09:31 2006 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from hotmail.com (bay103-f6.bay103.hotmail.com [65.54.174.16]) by king.hwcn.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 70B6663A6D for <[email protected]>; Sat, 17 Jun 2006 16:09:31 -0400 (EDT) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Sat, 17 Jun 2006 13:09:31 -0700 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 65.54.174.200 by by103fd.bay103.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Sat, 17 Jun 2006 20:09:30 GMT X-Originating-IP: [69.41.192.210] X-Originating-Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: "Ken Clarke" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2006 20:09:30 +0000 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed X-OriginalArrivalTime: 17 Jun 2006 20:09:31.0775 (UTC) FILETIME=[F20B90F0:01C69249] Subject: [Ontbirds] X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2006 20:09:32 -0000
Folks I can attest that the Snowy Egret is still hanging out in Saugeen Shores. I observed it there between noon and 1 pm today, Saturday. It was obligingly in a sandbar so that its yellow feet showed. Must fly Ken Clarke Stratford, ON [EMAIL PROTECTED] Directions (as per Mike Pickup) Mirimichi Bay is west of Hwy #21 on 10th Conc.
