The male Eurasian Wigeon was still present Sunday morning at Serpent Mounds
Prov. Park. I relocated it a bit to the east of where Colin and I orginally
found it, still in a large raft of waterfowl. As Don Sutherland noted, there
are well over 1500 ducks as you look in this direction. The wigeon was in the closest large flock to the point but the
reflection of the sun off the water made the lighting very difficult and it
was not easy to pick out the bird despite its obvious orange-red head.
For those interested in seeing it, I would suggest giving it a try at
the corners of the day when the sun is low in order to get the best
lighting. These flocks of ducks tend to stick around for a few days before
moving on, so it may well continue to be there for a few more.
Other interesting birds included two Red-necked Grebes, over 40 Redhead,
a first stage Bald Eagle still patrolling over the Hiawatha marshes and over
200 American Wigeon.

DIRECTIONS: Serpent Mounds Provincial Park is located south of the village
of Keene at the end of Serpent Mounds Rd. Park at the closed gate and walk
down the road ca. 300m to the lake. The raft of ducks were located directly
offshore.
