The crane appeared to have at least 3 bands on its legs- green, red and whitish. It also had what I presume to be a radio transmitter as there was a black wire hanging down from above its knee (?). Probably not the correct term. It did not appear to be timid at all and did not bother with vehicles going in and out of the driveway. Unfortunately I did not have my digital camera with me so the only pictures I have are the old fashioned type. My sister in law did however get some digital shots. We did not want to get too close so I am afraid that all we might end up with are small white blobs against the snow, or in the pond. I didn't know if there is some other organization that we should notify regarding this bird as it is clearly not where it is supposed to be. Any suggestions?

It is in Bentinck township, south of Chesley, on the 8th concession less than a kilometer east of the Mulock Road. The bird is in a pond near the road. It was heading west (upstream) along the St. Mary's River. This is likely the same bird that has been observed off and on all winter in this general location. The GLFC is located along the St. Mary's River at 1219 Queen Street East, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Sault Ste. Marie is located 3 hours west of Sudbury along the Trans Canada Highway 17.
