At noon today there was a Thayer's Gull (dark streaked head and neck, dark
iris, bubblegum legs) in with a flock of Ring-bills in the bay near the main
Ashbridge's Bay Park parking lot.

Ashbridge's Bay Park is at the foot of Coxwell Ave.

A textbook adult Krider's Red-tailed Hawk was seen today, just west of
Woodstock .By 'textbook',I mean it had a [mostly] white tail with a pinkish
cast, immaculate white underparts, pale head, pale saddle on the mantle as well
as an
obvious white carpal bar on the upperwing.

This same area hosted a Krider's last winter,as well,so it may very well be
a returning bird.

To reach the area the bird was seen...from hwy 401,take CR 6 exit north to
Ingersoll Road.Go east along Ingersoll Road and watch for raptors along the
river valley.Best location is where the valley is deepest, near Woodstock.

Hello All,

This afternoon on a walk through the Provincial Park I heard the most
familiar yet oddly out of place 'chip' for the end of January. Anyway, there
was an active Myrtle Warbler in the first large scots pine plantation as you
enter the park. Pretty good January bird.

A Fox Sparrow is still frequenting the feeders at the Old Cut Field Station
and Field Sparrows can be consistently found either on the Dyke at Old Cut or
in the provincial park.

There is no ice on the inner bay but only a few small rafts of diving ducks
can be found.

On Friday Jan 27, there were a few thousand gulls sitting on ice that used
to be on the inner bay. Within the flock I managed to pick out one 1st winter
Glaucous Gull and three birds which I believed to be Iceland Gulls when a
section of the flock flew, but the birds were very far away and were also
illuminated by the sun.

  Good Birding,

  Stu

The Long Point area can be reached by following Hwy # 59 south from the 401.
The Long Point Provincial Park and the Old Cut Field Station (Old Cut Blvd.)
are at the end of Hwy # 59 , on Long Point.
