I have been back to 1576 Route 300 to see if I could again locate the Great
Gray owl. I ran into other birders doing the same on the weekend. Last
time I saw it was a week ago on Sunday, January 22nd late in the day.
However the property owner informs me that the Great Gray owl is still
around and has been seen last Wednesday and on Friday she noticed one of its
plunge marks or "snow angels". But the owl appears to have abandonned its
favourite perch up front perhaps due to the snowmobiles.

Over the weekend I met a birder who had been talking to one of the occupants
of 23 Manitou in the community of Forrest Park where a Yellow-headed
Blackbird had been coming to a feeder for some time now. She mentioned not
having seen the bird since last Tuesday. However, this does not mean it
won't be back but is significant in that it was previously a regular visitor
to the feeders. She mentioned that the Boreal chickadee is still being
seen.

On the subject of Great Gray owls I thought this may be of interest. As
many know, northern Minnesota and Wisconsin had a fair number of Great Gray
owls during last winters invasion. I found the following while doing a
search on a website. Seems like dozens of Great Gray owls stayed for the
Summer and Fall in a place called Bayfield Peninsula located in northern
Wisconsin.
