Hi everyone

Yesterday morning, Tony Beck informed ontbirds subscribers that he had
received information from Brian and Christine Puttock that a Hermit
Thrush was visiting their property at 131 Palomino Drive in Kanata, and
that they welcome birders.

I had the chance to go in the afternoon and to see the bird around
4:20PM. I talked to Mr. Puttock who was very gracious and welcoming.
He told me that he hopes other birders will be able to see this rare
winter bird.

Birders are welcome to walk towards the backyard along the fence on the
left side of the garage. To avoid frightening the bird, walk slowly and
quietly on the narrow pathway, particularly when you reach the point
when you can see part of the backyard. The bird usually feeds under the
feeder near the fence about 5 meters from the left edge of the
backyard. Staying at the corner of the house will give you a better
chance to see the bird when it comes to feed. If you go in the
backyard, even a couple of feet pass the corner, you might not have a
chance to see it.

Mr. Puttock told me that the bird sometimes associates with Juncos and
that it also goes to his right side neighbours' backyard.

Although Mr Puttock did not say that they would prefer that you let them
know that you are there, I would advise that you do. I saw the bird
thanks to their help; I think they will be happy to help you as well.
They are birders themselves; some might have met them in the field.

Good weekend and good luck.
