The 62nd Carleton Place CBC was held on Tuesday, December 27th. Totals of 47 species and 7473 birds (both above average) were counted by 39 field observers and 31 feeder operators. There was more open water than usual. There were no new species.

Highlights were:
First American Black Duck since 1995
Second-only Golden Eagle (first was in 1997)
Second-only Carolina Wren (first was in 1975)

New record high counts:
Common Goldeneye (64) (previous high 43 in 1991)
Wild Turkey (169)   (previous high 72 last year)
Black-capped Chickadee (1320)  (previous high 1230 in 1994)

Red-winged Blackbird (2)
Pine Grosbeak (27)
Evening Grosbeak (97)
