Hello Ontbirders, A count week bird which may be of interest to birders is a Purple Sandpiper at Humber Bay East. It was seen Tuesday and yesterday at the far east end of the peninsula, near where the male Harlequin Duck has been frequently observed. Yesterday 3 Cackling Geese were also reported from the park, and a Common Loon is also in the area (off the east end this morning). Upon further examination, it appears that the Pacific Loon reported on the CBC at Cherry Beach was a juvenile Common Loon, making this only the third time that multiple Common Loons have been recorded on the Toronto CBC.
Thanks to the many birders who have provided count week observations (including Common Grackle, Snowy Owl, and several reports on the Purple Sandpiper), and who filled in additional feeder reports. The adjusted total for the count is 91 species and 47,215 individuals. DIRECTIONS: From the west, exit QEW at Park Lawn and head south, across Lakeshore, then turn right on the driveway to Humber Bay Park East, before the road curves left along the north side of the bay. From the east, exit the Gardiner Expressway at Lakeshore Blvd (immediately after the South Kingsway exit), continue to Park Lawn, turn left, and continue as above. A network of paths lead along the shoreline; the Purple Sandpiper and Harlequin Duck have been near the east end, where it is icy - walk with caution!
