One more from the South Peel CBC. We found a Gray Catbird feeding on Multi-flora Rose around 1 pm along the north side of the main GO-transit CNR tracks at the end of Fair Birch Drive in Lorne Park. It was hanging with Northern Cardinals. The area is undeveloped and marshy but it is marked on my MapArt book as Fairbirch Park.
The previously reported Peregrine was at Square 1 (see Terry Osborne post). Catbird Directions from Mississauga Road and Lakeshore Blvd. Travel west to stop lights at Lorne Park Rd. Turn right (north) on Lorne Park Rd, drive north, past the tracks and turn right at the first street - Birchview Dr. then right on Fair Birch Drive. Park at the end of the street and follow footprints in snow to the east. Bird was along the east side of the marsh near the tracks. -- Mark Cranford cranford AT allstream DOT net Mississauga, Ontario From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Dec 18 15:50:00 2005 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from hotmail.com (bay15-f1.bay15.hotmail.com [65.54.185.1]) by king.hwcn.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2CAF163A42 for <[email protected]>; Sun, 18 Dec 2005 15:50:00 -0500 (EST) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Sun, 18 Dec 2005 12:50:00 -0800 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 69.156.154.73 by by15fd.bay15.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Sun, 18 Dec 2005 20:50:00 GMT X-Originating-IP: [69.156.154.73] X-Originating-Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: "Neil E. A mature Bald Eagle also flew down river from the weir on the Grand River in Hidden Valley at 10:25 a.m.. 2 white-throated sparrows along with a song sparrow, along with over 80 mourning doves, and a pair of Red-bellied Woodpeckers along with regular birds to the feeder station may be seen daily at the feeding stations at Taylor Woods. Taylor Woods is a private property located at 1016 Wilson Ave., Kitchener close to Homer Watson Park. This property is accessed by a private drive between the Colt plant and the Bell Depot yard. It overlooks the Grand River. For out-of-town folk, please take 401 to the Homer Watson exit (one exit west of # 8 exit). Follow Homer Watson into Kitchener and take about the 5th light at Manitou and turn right onto Manitou. Turn right onto Wabanaki at the next set of lights. At the top of a small hill, turn right onto Wilson Ave. Proceed about 100 metres along Wilson. Note white chain link fence on your left (east) that encloses the Bell telephone depot. At the end of the fence, turn left onto private drive that appears to lead to the Colt Plant. Follow the drive on the south side of the depot until you see mailboxes and the drive that leads to the Taylor residence which is the bird feeding station known as Taylor Woods. Veer to right just past the sign. The feeders are around the white Taylor house with the blue steel shake roof. Birders are welcome. Hidden Valley is accessed off of Goodrich Dr. Take the same directions above except at the top of a small hill, on Wabanaki, turn right onto Wilson Ave. Proceed about a km. Turn right on Goodrich Dr. and go though the stop sign and then after about 2.5 km sign turn left onto to Hidden Valley Drive. Between # 730 and #735, a small open creek is open on both sides of the road. The winter wren was seen on each of the road close to the culvert with open running water. If you follow the creek downstream toward the Grand River, the Hermit Thrush was flushed out of the stream bed afjacent to a tennis court to shrubs and trees where it perched yesterday and today before returning to the creek area. Both birds seem comfortable. The Doon area on Old Mill Road at Schneider Creek yields regular visits by another winter wren, a male Red-bllied woodpecker, pileated woodpecker, golden-crowned kinglets and bald eagles on their winter perching, feeding, hunting territory.
