Hi Everyone
Today, December 11th, we birded along the Ottawa River from Remic
Rapids to Shirley's Bay. The river was still wide open between Deschenes and
Remic Rapids but Lake Deschenes had some areas of ice along the Ontario
side. The most interesting observations included 3 adult male Barrow's
Goldeneye at Remic Rapids and a female Barrow's Goldeneye at Deschenes
Rapids. There was an immature Bald Eagle near Bate Island/Champlain Bridge
and 2 adults off the Shirley's Bay boat launch.
During the afternoon did a quick check for the Northern Hawk-Owl east of
Ottawa and observed it at 2:00p.m. along Frank Kenny Road along with a juv.
Snowy Owl. There was a flock of 250+ Snow Bunting along Earl Armstrong Road
behind the Ottawa Airport and 2 Snowy Owl and 300+ Snow Bunting along
Eagleson Road between Fallowfield and Richmond Road.
