Hello Ontario Birders, Today, Wednesday November 23, Michael Carlson and I birded the Point Pelee area from the Pelee Tip to Wheatley Harbor. The morning started out cold at the Tip and ended even colder at Wheatley Harbor along the beach. We found the following in the area: Purple Sandpiper - Wheatley Harbor on the beach. This bird flew in and nearly landed directly in front of me. It then flew further down the beach near the breakwall. Glaucous Gull - Wheatley Harbor on the beach Lesser Black-backed Gull - Wheatley Harbor just off the beach Brewer's Blackbird - along the North Dyke road just north of Mersea D road. Joe Agius, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan DIRECTIONS: To reach Wheatley Harbor from the town of Wheatley take Erie Rd. south (Kent Rd 1) until you reach the harbor. To reach the North Dyke road take the first right immediately after you leave the Point Pelee park gate. Take this road east until you reach the canal. Turn left and head north until you reach Mersea D. Folks: There has been a Dark Morph Rough Legged Hawk hanging around my place of work for a little over a week. He tends to sit on the light standards or telephone posts and hunts the front lawn (which is now covered with snow). Dashwood Industries is located about 28 miles north of London on Highway 4. As a side note, with most of the area being hit with a windy snow storm today, I had a Yellow Rumped Warbler working away at the suet feeder at the house this morning... good birding, Rick Thornton Exeter ON -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Yesterday, after taking Penny to her flu clinic in d/t London I was able to get away for a few hours and decided to check out HC/PS area, arriving about 10:15 a.m. I observed - 1. Adult Bald Eagle out over lake - seemed to be harrassing gulls - could have been after ducks, but with 'bins I could only see gulls flying up. 2.~ 8 Am.Tree, 4/5 Song and 1 White-throated Sparrow ~ 40 Cedar Waxwing, 1 Gray Catbird, 6 Downy and 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker and 1 N.Flicker, several Black -capped Chickadee, White-breasted Nuthatch and N. Cardinal. 3. Northern Shrike - scattered the waxwings and almost nailed one, but had to take a rest and I was able to get my scope on it - beautiful 'clean' adult bird. 4. Northern Harrier - 1 adult male - hunting the weedy section of the field.~10:30 a.m. 5. Red-tailed hawk - 2 flying west at tree tops 10:45a.m. 6. Golden Eagle - 12:10 p.m. north of Port Stanley - Union Road - sub-adult?(a bit of a whitish band on upper tail, but none under wings) - bird was at tree-top level and I was so enjoying it in the sunshine that I forgot to scramble for my video camera - missed a 'golden' opportunity. 7. ~8/10 Eastern Bluebird - Roberts Line about 1 km west of Port Stanley Rd. - I've seen this flock here 3 or 4 times in Oct./Nov. Several Dark-eyed Junco and Am. Goldfinch here too. Cheers! Maris Directions: Hawk Cliff is south of Dexter Line at bottom of Fairview Line and just alittle ways east of Port Stanley.
