Visitors:
Many thanks to all who were on the tower today "scoping" those high flying
birds that were just specks in the sky. It's always nice to hear
everyone's stories.
Weather:
A glorious partly sunny fall morning quickly evolved to a day with mostly
cloudy conditions. Winds began WNW and remained westerly for most of the
day. Temperatures were from 11 C to 13 C.
Raptor Observations:
A nice mix of Raptors today. We had 10 species with highlights of 3
migrating immature Bald Eagles, and a couple of Peregrines late in the
day. Turkey vultures continue to show strong numbers with 1914 today.
Mixed in with the TV kettles were several Bueteos--mainly Red Tailed
Hawks, but also a few Red Shouldered Hawks. Todays cloudy conditions made
identification of the "high flying" birds a challenge.
Non-raptor Observations:
American Crows are begining to move in numbers, today we tallied 710.
Blackbirds showed a strong push this morning. Mainly Red Winged, but with
a few others mixed in...total 1340. AMGO are still moving 710 the first
few hours. Blue Jay numbers seem to be dwindling, 610. Also noted today
were the Gr Yellow Legs, several Northern Flickers, American Robins,
Belted King Fisher, and Cedar Waxwings.
Predictions:
Weather tomorrow shows a slight chance for rain, and SW winds with warmer
temps.
