Hi Everyone
Early morning, October 2, 2005, we birded the Westmeath Provincial Park
shoreline looking for Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows and were rewarded with
a total of 9 individuals. Other highlights included 1 singing Pine Warbler,
3 Fox Sparrows, and a Peregrine Falcon overhead.
At the Pembroke Marina, 12 p.m., an adult Caspian Tern was observed
resting on an exposed rock. During the afternoon we birded Lake Dore and had
a variety of water birds including 125+ Common Loon, 19 Red-necked Grebe, 44
Horned Grebe and 55 Double-crested Cormorant. A small number of Bonaparte's
Gull 75+ and 8 White-winged Scoters were also noted.
good birding
Bruce
Directions: Westmeath Provincial Park is accessed via Sand Point Rd off
County Rd 12. This is east of Pembroke. Walk east along the Ottawa River
beach to enter the park.
To reach Lake Dore, go north of Eganville on Hwy 41 for 5 km., then left
on Point Church Rd. Drive along the road looking for clearing along the
lake shore to view the water.
If you require any additional information, please email me privately.
