We have just returned from a driving trip out west. This info is not very
current but may still be of interest. We travelled both ways via Fort
Frances and Rainy River and used the "Birding in the Rainy River Area"
article by David Elder in the OFO magazine "Ontario Birds", vol 22, number
3, December 2004 to spend a few hours birding there.
Highlights on Sept 8 were:
Black-billed Magpie (several) - Hwy 602 near Fort Frances
Western Sandpiper (3) - Emo Lagoons
Brewer's Blackbird - Hwy 11 near Rainy River
Highlights on Sept 16, all on Wilson Creek Road near Rainy River were:
Le Conte's Sparrow (several)
Harris's Sparrow
Sedge Wren (2)
Connecticut Warbler
Directions:
For Wilson Creek Road take Hwy 600 north off Hwy 11 at Rainy River and after
about 10km turn left.
The article listed above contains great directions and maps.
