Mariann quickly produced her Sibley's feild guide, and the plover we were looking at compared very favourably to a juvenile Pacific Golden Plover shown in the Guide. If anyone has any comments on this I would welcome them. To get back to the Ruff, once it was discovered, it was easy to see that patience was needed to see this bird. The shorebirds here along with all the Swallows, and American Pipits are constantly being harrassed by birds of prey, this afternoon it was a Sharp-shinned Hawk, and a little later a Merlin cruised around and scattering all before it.
