On Saturday, Sept. 10/05 I observed a single American White Pelican on the north side of Peninsula D of Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie Street Spit) in Toronto.
The bird was observed from 0745-0755 as I was preparing to do a census count for the TTP Bird Research Station. It was first seen associating with a group of Mute Swans. When the bird flew off at 0755 it was heading west and did not return so the best places to look for it would likely be either at the Toronto Islands or along the north shore of Lake Ontario from Mississauga to Hamilton. A small group of shorebirds was seen just after 1000 the best of which was a single American Golden Plover. Tommy Thompson Park is located at the foot of Leslie Street in Toronto. Bird banding operations run daily however the park is only open to the public on weekends and holidays. To reach TTP: From the north or east take Don Valley Parkway south from the 401. Exit DVP to Lakeshore and turn east. At Leslie Street turn south. From the south or west take Gardiner Expressway eastbound. Take at the final exit labelled Lakeshore (this is east of downtown). Proceed to Leslie Street and turn south. Tom Flinn Toronto, Ontario [EMAIL PROTECTED]
