Sept. 4, 2005
Two (2) Whimbrel were seen at the Aylmer National Wildlife Area, northeast
of the town of Aylmer, Ontario on September 2nd at around 7:30 pm.
To get there take Highway #3 east through the town of Aylmer to Hacienda
Side Road on the east side of the town. Turn left, heading north
approximately 5 kilometers toward the Aylmer Police College. Before you
reach the Police College entrance there is a sign for the Wildlife Area.
Turn right, heading east and follow the long curved driveway toward the back
of the Police College to the viewing stands. There is a large pond with
mudflats toward the north end. Numerous Lesser and Greater yellowlegs along
with Least sandpipers were seen with Mallards, Black duck and Canada geese
yesterday, but no Whimbrels.
