Adult male Black-headed Grosbeak first spotted last night on my feeder at
6:10PM (see photo at
http://post.queensu.ca/~davids/blackheadedgrosbeak.jpg) and then again this
morning at 6:15AM. Immature Male Rose-breasted Grosbeak also seen this
morning (but not together) so I am not sure if they are travelling together
or not. Black-headed has been on the waterside triple-tube feeder not
easily seen from the road. You may walk behind the duck cage, along the
property line with my neighbor, to get a view of the feeder.
Directions: Exit 632 from Hwy 401 at Joyceville Road. South on Joyceville
to Howe Island Ferry Road. Ferry to Howe Island is $2/trip ($4 round
trip), with continuous service at the moment. From ferry continue straight
on Howe Island Drive, turn right onto Baseline (2nd road on the right from
the ferry). Next left onto Goodfriend and then next left onto Havenwood
Trail to #80 on your right. Please park in parking area across from the house.
