Tuesday 16 August 11am - 1pm The first [south east] lagoon had most of the action including the Lesser Golden-Plover, an adult half moulted back to basic, but undertail coverts still almost black. It hardly moved in two hours [no, not a decoy!]. Also 2 Willets and 3 Pectoral Sandpipers. Many Lesser Yellowlegs, Least Sandpipers and Killdeers with a few Semipalmated Plovers. Two Bonaparte's Gulls.
The SW lagoon had high water and only Mallards, Canada geese, a Trumpeter Swan [with metal band on right leg] and a Great Blue Heron. The NW lagoon had high water and no action. The NE lagoon is presently being stone-lined along the north shore and has very low water exposing good mud flats on west, south and east shores - but nothing new to report. The first time that we have not seen Ruddy Ducks at Townsend. Jarvis Sewage Lagoons. The two lagoons parallel to the track had very high water and were green algae covered - not a bird anywhere. The two lagoons away from the track were not much better - the first has some mud flat and some common shorebirds but the further has high water and only Mallards and Canada Geese. John Tyacke and Julie Berger Directions: For Townsend Lagoons turn right from Highway 6 to # 69 to Townsend. Turn left on Keith Richardson Parkway. Go to Concession 14, turn right and go about 750 m. Lagoons are on your right.
