This afternoon (Aug 14) at about 3:45 pm I had an early juvenile Black-legged Kittiwake fly past Hamilton's Van Wagners Beach. The bird continued flying westerly towards Burlington. The winds were NE about 15 kmph today, so after the rain stopped this afternoon it seemed worth a check.
Directions to Van Wagners Beach: >From the QEW highway coming from the west, take the Woodward Ave exit; turn right at the stoplight at the end of the ramp; turn right at the next lights onto Beach Blvd, go under the QEW, then turn right again at the lights onto Van Wagners Beach Rd. Continue about 1 km to the parking lots near Hutch's Restaurant. >From the QEW coming from the east, take the Hwy 20 exit (Centennial Parkway); go north to the North Service Rd; turn left at the lights; continue east as the road bends right then left and becomes Van Wagners Beach Dr; continue about 1 km to the parking lots near Hutch's Restaurant.
