Hello Ont.Birders: Sorry for the late posting ,but I was out of town do to a
death in my family. On Monday July 25/05 at 8:15 EST, 9:15 DST time I observed 2
Juvenal Bald Eagles flying West and quite low over the Bayview & Sheppard area!
I assume these were hatch year Florida birds which had flown North & were now
returning South. Has the great escape begun??

Good Birding & Keep looking Up!!
Cheers:
Mike Williamson

Another quiet week on the homefront. A few migrants are beginning to
trickle through the area with many to come in the next few weeks. Not much
news to report from the Hamilton Study Area so this week I am borrowing
birds for those who want to travel just slightly out of the area to see new
lands.

The hotspot for shorebirds is Townsend Sewage Lagoons. The cells here are
excellent for shorebirds to gather as water levels are low and there is lots
of goo to hold the insects to feed on. Reports from this week include
Semipalmated Plover, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Baird's
Sandpiper, Stilt Sandpiper, Short-billed and Long-billed Dowitcher and
Bonaparte's Gull. In all eleven species of shorebirds were seen here in the
week. This spot should be checked on a regular basis as this seems to be
the best show in town. The lagoons are located just outside the town of
Townsend.

A trip to Spooky Hollow a tract of land owned by the Hamilton Naturalists
Club near the town of Normandale today produced the following species
Yellow-billed Cuckoo (2), Acadian Flycatcher viewed for about 20 minutes on
the Marion Chivas Trail about 50 metres from where it returns to the main
trail, Hooded Warbler, Magnolia Warbler(2), and at least a half dozen
Scarlet Tanagers, only one was a male in breeding plumage.

Now returning to the Hamilton Area at Shoreacres/Paletta Park on Lakeshore
an early Northern Waterthrush visited the area last Friday. Along the lake,
a lone Common Merganser was seen on Tuesday. At the high level bridge on
York Road, an Osprey was seen carrying a fish.

Have a great long weekend, get out there and bird!!! Report your sightings
so that my Hamilton Report is a little more beefy next week.

Good Birding,
Cheryl Edgecombe
