Another quiet week, but again with a few interesting reports. Two CASPIAN TERNS were near the ferry dock on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River at Quyon on July 1st. On the 3rd, an adult Northern Goshawk was seen carrying food and then soaring above the Sarsaparilla Trail in the Stony Swamp. Broad-winged Hawks were noted over Orleans Blvd. as well as the visitor's centre in Gatineau Park at Chelsea on the 30th and 1st, and there have been several observations of American Kestrels in both suburban and rural locations since June 27th. Back on June 25th, a Black- crowned Night-Heron was spotted at Mud Lake in Britannia. Shorebirds reports from the Alfred sewage lagoons included a Solitary Sandpiper on the 26th, and 18 Lesser Yellowlegs and 1 Least Sandpiper on the 29th. On the 25th, 2 White-rumped Sandpipers were reported from the Embrun sewage lagoons. The Alfred site also had a female Redhead with 9 downy young and 39 Ruddy Ducks with at least one brood of ducklings. The breeding pair of RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS was seen in the old burn area off Whistler Rd. in Constance Bay on the 1st, and one adult was seen here again on the 3rd. And again going back to the 25th, at the Mer Bleue boardwalk there was a singing male PALM WARBLER and 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS. Thank you - Good Birding! - End transcript
