This evening, June 12, we saw one hatchling at the Red-necked Grebe nest in
Bronte Outer Harbour Marina. Within a few minutes we observed several
feedings. Nesting had begun on May 10 and four eggs were observed on May 18.
As in previous years there are a number of other pairs in the area and some
are attempting to build nests attached to boats. There is one other tire in
place for grebes to use but it is not occupied although some nesting
material has been placed on it.
Directions: Exit the QEW at Bronte Rd. (Oakville) and go to the lake. Turn
left at Ontario St. and park near the Lighthouse Restaurant. The nest is on
an anchored floating tire in the basin east of the restaurant. It is fairly
close to shore.
