My botanizing and watching Snappers laying eggs of late has taken me away
from much ornithologizing. However, if you want shorebird habitat and are
deparate for viewing sandpipers, et al, you could drop by the Sobey's Ponds
in south Whitby. They stretch along in front of the very long storage houses
to the west of the Iroquois Sports Complex on Victoria St. Over the past
week there have been Dowitchers and several sandpiper species.
On Sunday, June 5, morning I noted 5 Spotted, 2 Least, 2 Killdeers and 3
Semi-palmated Sandpipers. Day by day there has variety.
I would like people to know that the Pickering Naturalists had a most
successful sidewalk sale on June 4-- over $850.00 has been raised, all of it
designated for the Thickson's Woods Land Trust Fund for the meadowland
mortgage paydown.
