Sorry for the delay with this post. Tuesday morning between 9-10:00 am, I observed both male and female piping plovers at the eastern edge of Beach area 1 at Wasaga Beach. There had been some concern for the female, as she had not been seen for a few days. The male was enticing her with all of the displays of mating. In fact, mating did take place within 20-30 ft of the snow fence that's been set up to protect this endangered bird. What a sight to see. There will no doubt be concerns for their well being, along with their young, given that the area chosen for nesting is within the busiest of beach areas. Nancy Murphy Barrie, Ontario Wasaga Beach can be reached by going west out of Elmvale on Hwy 92. Follow into Main St., turn right and follow to main beach area, just over the bridge, turn right and park in Beach 1 parking area. Walk down to the beach and you will see the snow fenced area with signs posted. There were reports of MNR and OFO staff present, although there was no one there at the time of my visit.
