Point Pelee Report for May 21 (Saturday)

For the first time this spring, the woods at Point Pelee are active with
bird song -- Indigo Buntings, Scarlet Tanagers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks,
Eastern Wood=Pewees and Ovenbirds. Migrants are few, but there certainly
are some new arrivals including some of the later species such as
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher and Mourning Warbler.

Reported today are the following:

Hooded Warbler -- female near the Tip on the seasonal trail.

Summer Tanager -- Adult male in the Tip area.

Sandhill Crane -- East Beach at Shuster Trail (flyover)

NW Hillman Marsh (shorebird cell) continues to have an excellent variety of
shortebirds including (yesterday) Wilson's Phalarope, Baird's Sandpiper
(third-ever spring record for Point Pelee) and Red-necked Phalarope.

Good Birding,
Friends of Point Pelee
John Haselmayer, Karl Konze, Ross Mackintosh, Dave Martin, Pete Read and
Alan Wormington
