birders,
At about 8:25pm my daughter and I found a first summer Yellow-crowned Night
Heron on the east side of the Shorebird habitat. We flushed the bird from
the grass along the dyke and luckily the bird flew in front of us a landed
in a tree about 10m away. After about 15min of viewing we could no longer
sit on the bird for you know who to show up so we had to leave. Walking
towards the bird we flushed the bird again and it just simply flew over and
down the dyke till we flushed it again and again and at one point my
daughter (3yrs.) wished to "pet it's head"... yes we were close. Lastly we
left the bird at the bend in the trail just before the tall cotton
wood/willow trees on the east side of the shorebird cell.
