Allan Roitner and I rushed over to the John F. Smith Trail at lunchtime today
in hopes of rediscovering the Golden-winged Warbler that occurred there this
morning, but had no luck.
Consolation came in the form of several other warbler species, however:
Northern Parula, Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, American Redstart, Black &
White, plus several Nashvilles.

At the pond near the baseball diamonds along this trail I observed 5 swallow
species including the sometimes elusive Cliff Swallow.

Keith Dunn reported several warbler species in Holland Landing today including
Northern Waterthrush and Magnolia, plus Philadelphia Vireo.

DIRECTIONS: The John F. Smith Trail is by no means a birding mecca, but the
past few days have been good for passerines there. The easiest way to access
it is to take Coventry Hill Trail, which is a street that runs east from
Bathurst Avenue just south of Mulock Drive in southwestern Newmarket. Drive to
the end, park by the mailboxes and walk down to the little bridge. You can go
in either direction, keeping your ears and eyes peeled.

Newmarket is north of Toronto, about halfway to Barrie.

-----
> .Fish Point and Lighthouse Point produced at least 25 species of warbler
late yesterday and early today with Blackpoll Warbler beginning to move
through. A Worm-eating Warbler was seen again today near the banding
station. Philadelphia Vireo put in an appearance as well as Black-billed
Cuckoo. Some raptor migration was evident. After 2 days of reverse migration
there was no evidence of the phenomena today. Without rain shorebirds
continue to be hard to find unless you find farm fields being worked up.
Total species for May is 165.
