Posting for Heather Anne Campbell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Under the very capable leadership of Blake Mann and Maris Apse (both of
whom are away from their respective computers until late Sunday evening),
25 enthusiastic birders shared a very enjoyable day of early spring birding
and fellowship in Rondeau Provincial Park. Seventy-eight (78) species were
recorded as of 3:30 p.m. Highlights as follows:

Warbler/Vireo: Nashville, Yellow, Magnolia, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated
Green, Blackburnian, Palm, Black-and-white and Common Yellowthroat
Warblers, the vireo species included Blue-headed, Warbling and Red-eyed
Vireo.

Woodpecker: Red-headed, Red-bellied, Downy, Hairy and Northern Flicker.

Glamour birds: Red-headed Woodpecker (at least 5) and Baltimore Oriole.

Participants also enjoyed some fine and close-up views of a soaring and
perched adult Bald Eagle - always a nice feast for the eyes!

In closing, thank you to Blake and Maris for whetting our appetites for the
more "birdy" days that lie ahead of us.

The Black-Backed Woodpecker at the Hyde tract. in Flambough was seen =
today, Sun. 11:45 am.
It was in the same location as it was before.

Directions:

To Hyde Tract: Take Hwy 6 North to Safari Road. Go west on Safari Road
from Hwy 6 about 14-15 km. Just before Hyde tract on the east side of =
it is
a large marsh. Hyde Tract is on the south side of the road there is a
parking lot located there. If you have gone west past Kirkwall Road, =
you
have gone too far. Once in the parking lot, follow the main trail. The
trail does split off once, but the main trail is apparent as it is =
larger.
Keep on the right side of the trail following the main trail past the =
ruins
of the old house. Keep going until you get to a large cement block =
located
on the main trail. Take the trail on the left side. We found the bird =
about 100 meters down this
trail . The easiest way to find the bird is to listen for it pecking on =
the trees in this area. If you
get within 20 or 30 meters of it you should be able to hear it and track =
it
down.

Have Fun

We found an adult Dickcissel about 10 o'clock this morning around 290
Hastings Dr., which is a cottage with boarded up windows. It was back
and forth to each side of the road and seemed to be associating with
House Sparrows.

There is also a vixen with 5 young kits in the same area.
