Calm and clear conditions overnight ushered in a significant influx of birds to the Park. Considerably more bird song could be heard first thing this morning. Not only was it active at the Tip, but birds were being seen flitting about throughout the entire Park. Most noticeable were the White-throated Sparrows. Hundreds, if not thousands made landfall in the Park. Also conspicuously present were White-crowned Sparrows. While only a scattered few were reported yesterday, their buzzy song could be heard at numerous locations. Also evident was a new wave of RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS. In addition, both species of ORIOLE and SCARLET TANAGER were being widely reported. Warbler numbers and diversity also increased. BLACKBURNIAN, CHESTNUT-SIDED, NASHVILLE, PALM, OVENBIRD, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH were scattered amongst numerous YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. Also reported this morning were a few PURPLE FINCHES, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER, LINCOLN'S SPARROW, WHITE-EYED VIREO, all 5 species of regularly occurring WREN, MERLIN, LEAST FLYCATCHER, VEERY,and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW. At the Tip, both SURF and BLACK SCOTER continue to be seen regularly in small numbers. Also present was a LONG-TAILED DUCK. The NEOTROPIC CORMORANT has yet to be reported this morning. Also reported yesterday from the Park were BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, EASTERN KINGBIRD, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and OVENBIRD. There is a chance of thundershowers overnight. If timed right, it could help bring additional species and numbers to the Park tomorrow morning.
