Little change in the weather or the numbers of birds was noted this
morning. Moderately strong west winds continue to blow through the Park.
Consequently the same (low) numbers and species appear to be present. Not
surprisingly, all of the more productive areas are either on the east side
of the Park or in more sheltered areas.

Some of the species reported this morning included both Virginia Rail and
Sora (both heard calling) along the east end of the Shuster Trail, an
immature Bald Eagle seen regularly flying back and forth past the Visitor
Centre, Pine and Palm Warblers east of the Tip train stop, an adult LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL at the Tip, scattered Yellow Warblers throughout, Also of
interest was some late lingering Dark-eyed Juncos, a dark morph
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, EASTERN PHOEBE along the Woodland nature Trail and an
unidentified WATERTHRUSH near the Sparrow Field. The female BLACK-THROATED
GRAY WARBLER was not reported yesterday but may still be about somewhere.
The group of birds it was frequenting with still seem to be present.

Also seen yesterday was an adult MISSISSIPPI KITE, observed flying south
over the Shuster Trail. Unfortunately it was not observed again flying back
in the opposite direction. The female PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was reported as
late as 5:30 p.m., just east of the Sparrow Field and a SEDGE WREN skulked
about along the trail south of the Sparrow Field. Neither have been seen
today. YELLOW-THROATED VIREO and LINCOLN'S SPARROW round out the list of
noteworthy birds.

Additional species reported outside the Park yesterday were 14 AMERICAN
AVOCETS at Wheatley Harbour, 75-80 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS at Kopagaron Woods
(near Wheatley), 1 BLACK TERN south of Wheatley and a male YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRD at Paula's Fish Place.
