I want warblers !!! Seems migrants are arriving slowly... no warblers
seen yet and I am speculating the dry weather is the culprit. Perhaps
the recent change in weather with our first precipitation in weeks will
bring new arrivals in the next few days.
Anyways I sighted in the Lasalle Woods the following:
2 White Throated Sparrow - recent arrival
2 Tufted Titmouse
1 Red Bellied Woodpecker - believed to be resident
Two odd occurances, the last concerned a robin. I watched one chasing
another from the tree tops. The pursued came down fast and came to the
ground. It then began fluttering on the ground unable to get back up. I
did not see the other strike it but wondered if it had been injury by
its pursuer. I watched it for a few minutes and then wondered also if it
had become contaminated with lawn fertilizer as I have seen in the past,
of course it was in the tree tops moments ago. Not sure about it. No way
to take it to a rehab centre no car this season sadly.
Note two is interesting though non-birding ... Seems the little stream
in this woods not only has pike but also snapping turtles. Came across
one at the surface then notice a second upside down direct beneath it. I
figure turtle love was ensuing. The underside one poked its head out of
the water from time to time and then submerged with head and claws
outstretched. A form of turtle ecstasy I think. Ah spring !!!!
Happy Birding (and Turtling) All
