At one of our early stops we saw a swan fly over. It was definitely a swan but looked silvery-gray through binoculars. My first thought was that it might be a Trumpeter Swan since we have seen them on Big Rideau Lake about 30 km west of where we were. But the swan was silvery-gray so I wonder if it could be a Whistling Swan. I know that they migrate through Ontario but are considered rare in this region. To reach the area where we saw the swan, take county road 16 south about 8-9km from Merrickville, exit right onto County Road 41, go for about 2km and exit left on Weedmark (gravel road), continue about 3km to area with swampy forest on both sides of road (we stopped 5.6 km from where road 41 exits from road 16).
