As we anxiously await incoming migrants I can only give, in response to many requests, recent highlights at 3 locations, some of which have been passed on to me: Hall's Rd.--Red-bellied Woodpecker, White-crowned Sparrow, occasional Ruby-crowned Kinglets, many Brown Creepers; in the water below the pathway platforms--at least 8 Am. Coots, and in the waters of Cranberry Marsh--10 Ruddy Ducks, 5 Hooded Mergansers, Goldeneyes, Scaups, Ring-necked Ducks, etc.
It was a pleasant thrill to hear the wonderful "quacking" of WOOD FROGS from the north platform. On Apr.11 at Presqu'ile I heard Wood Frogs, Chorus Frogs and Spring Peepers, and managed to hear and see a PINE WARBLER--near the checklist board. Thickson's Woods --Apr.10--large numbers of Fox Sparrows, Hermit Thrushes, kinglets and creepers; today/Apr.13 it was "quiet"--2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglets Saturday, May 7---THICKSON's SPRING FESTIVAL For Hall's Rd.--exit 401 at Salem Rd. (in Ajax), south to Bayly, east through Lakeridge Rd. to the first street (Hall's), south. For Thickson's--exit 401 at Thickson (in east Whitby), south almost to the lake, turning down a deadend road to the left. Doug Lockrey, Whitby www.pickeringnaturalists.org
