There are still about 16-20 Great Gray Owls in Simcoe County as we go into the second week of April.and a week from their first egg dates. They have been seen daily mostly around dawn and dusk at Midland (4), Coldwater (3), Orillia (7), and north of Barrie (3). A few have been reported at other locations but not on a regular basis this week. Only one dead Great Gray Owl received this week. Barred Owls now outnumber Great Gray Owls for reports with several observed near houses looking for rodents near old sheds, under decks, and around winter bird feeders.
