I'm the "previous birder" who was at Pelee the morning of April 5th. There was also a Vesper Sparrow in the NE corner of the Visitor Centre parking lot at 11 a.m. In the same area was a Brown Thrasher and a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker. At 1:30 this afternoon, I located a Lark Sparrow at the south end of the Ganatchio Trail at Little River in east Windsor. The bird was in the scrub surrounding a flooded area to the east of the trail just north of the VIA Rail tracks. This is the second time I've found this species at this site, the first time being seven years ago this very day, and that first bird was only a few hundred metres more to the east of today's bird! My brother Robert also observed the bird. In fact, the lucky guy was closer to it and had a better angle on it. We lost it after it flew back toward the paved road and disappeared into the scrub. The specific location where I found the bird today is one of the very best and easiest places to find Savannah and Vesper Sparrows locally. There is always a little fallout there the first week of April. The Ganatchio Trail and surrounding area is fantastic for sparrows in general. Someone had a Henslow's there last spring, and I had a LeConte's the previous fall. Clay-colored Sparrows can be found virtually every spring and in the fall as well. Good birding! --Randy Horvath, Windsor [EMAIL PROTECTED]
