There was a nice flight of Snow Geese this afternoon around 12:30 p.m. over the city of Cornwall. I've counted roughly 2,200 birds in flocks of mixed size but all passing over within 10 minutes. There were about 10 blues among them. The birds were flying over their traditional route through the region, directly over Hwy 401 heading east. They may continue on to Quebec (about 20-25 minutes as the goose flys) or hopefully stop along the way. The fields along concessions north of Lancaster (county road 34) would be worth checking. Last weekend, when the weather changed, large numbers (10s of thousands) began to leave the fields south of Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in New York state (near the south shore of Lake Ontario) with most likely heading directly to Quebec.
