Hello Ontbirders

I stopped into Thickson's Woods about 4:30 this afternoon. It was pretty quiet, but I did flush an AMERICAN WOODCOCK as I walked around the northwest corner near the feeder.

I didn't stay long enough to see if they were displaying in the meadow yet.

Directions:

Thickson's Woods is found by going south on Thickson Rd from the 401 in Whitby, to the Waterfront Trail. The entrance to the woods and meadow is off of the Waterfront Trail, east of Thickson Rd.

Good Birding
Carol

Hi everybody!!

Today, March 27, I birded Presquille Provincial Park. There was an impressive movement of Canada Geese with over 15,000 observed between 6 am and 10 am this morning from Owen Point. Other birds of note included 3 Red-throated Loons and 2 Horned Grebes. There was a steady movement of landbirds, 100's of Red- winged Blackbirds, Common Grackles, American Robins, and two Eastern Meadowlarks, 6 Snow Buntings and 3 Horned Larks. Presquille Bay was still partially frozen and viewing conditions were excellent off Calf Pasture. Yesterday, there were 550 Canvasback, 750 Redhead, 2500 Greater Scaup. Today the numbers of Canvasback and Redhead were lower but there was a good diversity of waterfowl including American Wigeon, Northern Pintail, Gadwall, and both Green-wing and Blue-wing Teal. One Snowy Owl was present but well concealed. The Tufted Titmouse was singing along Paxton Road near the Lighthouse Park.

Good birding.

Directions: To reach Presqu'ile Provincial Park, follow the signs from
Brighton.
Locations within the Park are shown on a map at the back of a tabloid that
is available at the Park gate. Access to the offshore islands is
restricted at this time of year to prevent disturbance to the colonial
nesting birds there.
