Woodcocks have arrived at Rondeau. I saw at least 10 and heard many more this evening at 7 pm. They are 'peenting' and displaying with gusto.
Earlier today we had robins singing, white throated sparrows singing and song sparrows singing. Tufted titmice are still coming daily to the feeders at the visitor centre. Thousands of tundra swans are at Erieau where the water is open at the head of Rondeau Bay and in outlying fields. Anne McArthur Directions to Rondeau: Take 401 to Kent 15 exit. Travel South towards Lake Erie on Kent 15 until you reach Rose Beach Line. Turn right to the park gates. Once inside the gates (unattended weekdays) you will be on Rondeau Road. Follow it until it ends and turn left onto Gardiner Road. At the end of Gardiner the Visitor Centre will be on your right and a grassy knoll will be on your left. The woodcocks are in this grassy area and across the road along the sand dunes. The Visitor Centre is only open on weekends.
