Hi Ontbirders,
The very co-operative TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE is still being seen at Hungry
Hollow along the Ausable River. I found it this morning on Fossil Road at
the red gate.
I spent some time along the St. Clair River also, and there is still lots to
see. Many spring ducks have arrived including Green-winged Teal, Wigeon,
Gadwall, Wood Duck, Pintail and many Hooded Mergansers. Best spot is at
Cathcart Park and north to Lambton Generating Station for these ducks.
There are still a fair number of Glaucous Gulls along the river.
Four White-winged Scoters are still present off Point Edward at the mouth of
Lake Huron.
Solitaire Directions: West on Hwy 402 past Strathroy interchanges to
Middlesex Rd
6, exit 56. Turn north to Middlesex Rd 12, Townsend's Line. Turn left,
continue for about 3 roads to the signs Hungry Hollow and Sylvan Road.
Turn right (north), cross the Ausable R. bridge, park just over the
bridge (west side) - Fossil Rd, not maintained in winter. Walk down
Fossil Rd to the red gate.
Directions to Sombra and St. Clair River: Find Hwy 40 that runs N/S between
Wallaceburg and Sarnia. Turn west on Lambton Rd. 2 (Bentpath Line) and take
to Sombra on the St. Clair River. Fawn Island is just to the south of the
village. The St. Clair Parkway (Rd. 33) follows the river along its length.
Cathcart Park is about 4 km north of Sombra.
