Bertween 7 and 11a.m. on Saturday, Mar.11, many visitors were enamoured by some great sights, particularly along Shoal Pt. and Hall's Rds. in southwest Whitby.
Shoal Pt. Rd.--5 Great Gray Owls alongside the road &/or in the field; 1 Barred Owl at 9a.m.--roadside tree. Lakeridge Rd.--2 Great Grays--9:30a.m. NOTE-- THE GGOs ARE PERCHING AND FLYING AND HUNTING IN THE BROAD DAYLIGHT lately. Hall's Rd.-- at least 3 GGOs were seen throughout the morning--perched alongside the road, in the field and on poles. A Barred Owl was located from the north pathway, perched in a tall Spruce tree. A male Pileated Woodpecker appeared 3 times, flying/calling, trunk-perching in several trees alongside the road. The female Red-bellied Woodpecker came in for brief visits. An adult N.Goshawk and a N.Shrike were picked up at the top end of the road in the early morning. A Tundra Swan was seen from the end-of-the-path (from the south pathway) that leads to the lakeside--it flew easterly over the barrier beach. Exit the 401 at Salem Rd. (in Ajax), south to Bayly, east to 1)the first traffic light (Shoal Pt. Rd.)--south beyond the StopSign, or 2) the third traffic light (LakeRidge Rd. ) or 3) to the next street (Hall's Rd.), thence south. Doug Lockrey, Whitby
