Gidday Folks!!

Well, just a short note to say that while I hope you have many more days
enjoying the Great Grays throughout the south, as they feed on the obviously
abundant supply of the voles they journeyed south for, I am nevertheless
reporting that I have seen 2 this week after 3 months of no reported sightings
here in the Hearst area.

I suspect that this may be the beginning of the return wave as they begin to
pair up and head back north to breed. I (like I am sure many of you are as
well) am anxious to see how this irruption will affect the upcoming Nocturnal
Owl Surveys, and Breeding Bird Atlassing.

Hearst is a small French Canadian community of 6000 located along TransCanada
Highway #11, 6 hours north of North Bay and 6 hours east of Thunder Bay.

Hi all:

I've been seeing an adult Bald Eagle soaring over the Round Lake area for
the past 3 weeks now. Whether more than one bird is involved is unknown.
First sighting over Wilno on Feb 10; the second on Feb 22 near Bonnechere;
the third sighting this afternoon, March 3, at Round Lake. Round Lake is a
well known winter deer yarding area that lures Algonquin's wolves out of the
east side of the Park and this year is no exception. The Eagles are scouring
the area for wolf kills and from what I've seen they are being rewarded with
a few carcasses. Many Ravens and a few Gray Jays have been seen benefitting
from the wolves left-overs.

> Wilno is about 180 kms west of Ottawa on Highway 60; Round Lake can be
reached by turning onto Simpson Pit Rd from Hwy 60 or taking Round Lake Rd.
from Pembroke. The eagles could be anywhere in the area from day to day.<
