OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE - FEB 27 2005 AT 8:00 PM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE is still present in the Rothwell Heights
neighbourhood, and was most recently seen on Feb. 24th on Coxford
St. just west of Rothwell Dr. Please do not park on Coxford, as
it is a very short & narrow street, but rather on Wick Cr. or
Rothwell Dr. and please do not enter private property. The
Carolina Wren was also heard singing again in this neighbourhood,
near #106 Rothwell on Feb. 26th.

Two male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE are still on the Ottawa River at Remic
Rapids, and the Barrow's X Common hybrid is still on the Rideau
River behind the Tennis Club as of the 25th and so is the male
Wood Duck.

At least 9 Bald Eagles - 4 adults and 5 immature birds of various
ages - were seen in the Gatineau Hills in the vicinity of the
Eardley-Masham Rd. on the 27th, along with increasing numbers of
Common Ravens and small numbers of White-winged Crossbills and
Pine Siskins.

A Northern Goshawk was feeding on a pigeon in a backyard in Forest
Park, Embrun, on the 20th, and Cooper's Hawks were noted at Hunt
Club & Merivale Rd. and at Parc Brebeuf. An adult female Peregrine
Falcon was on the southeast corner of the Crowne Plaza hotel in
downtown Ottawa on the 27th. The NORTHERN HAWK OWL is still in its
favourite location at ski trails # 29 and #5 in Gatineau Park,
GREAT GRAY OWLS are still being found around the region, and a
Snowy Owl was at the southwest corner of Eagleson and Fallowfield
Rds. on the 27th.

Approx. 15 American Robins were along Rifle Rd. near Shirley's Bay
on the 26th and one was singing at Mud Lake in Britannia the same
day. Bohemian Waxwings continued to be reported from Rifle Rd.
and areas west of Ottawa during the week, and a dozen Cedar
Waxwings and a few Pine Siskins were in the Rockcliffe Park area
near the parkway on the 25th. Pine Grosbeaks were also reported
during the past week in Carp along Robert Lee Rd. near Donald B.
Munro.

Thank you - Good Birding!
