Hi Everyone
Yesterday, February 17,2004 we observed an adult male Common x Barrow's
Goldeneye hybrid in Ottawa along the Rideau River near the Tennis Club. It
was in a small flock of Common Goldeneye and at first glance it look like a
Barrow's. This individual has no black spur, the facial crescent mark was
small and the checked pattern on the sides shows little black. Later on we
saw 2 adult male Barrow's Goldeneye along the Ottawa River at Remic Rapids.
You could clearly see that the bird on the Rideau was intermediate between
these two species.
                                                                good birding

Park and walk over to the open area of water along the Rideau River. There
are a small number of Common Goldeneye's and lots of Mallards.
