The sightings for both the snow buntings and Great Gray Owls occurred between 2-3pm today, Sunday February 13/05
Snow Buntings: The buntings were sitting on top of a tree on Hunt Line Road. Turn west off of Loggers Way and go about 2 kilometers on Hunt Line Road. Great Gray Owls: The owls were on Ritchie Road. Turn west off of Upper Dwyer Hill Road just past the Mississippi River. X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2005 01:32:40 -0000 Late this afternoon, driving east on Doane Road, a little east of Kennedy Road, about 2 km west of McCowan road, we found a Great Gray Owl perched on a low wire, right at the edge of the road. Without having to leave the car (no traffic, either) we enjoyed an extremely close-up view of the bird in very good sunlight. It was an adult, with some faded secondary feathers. Further along, going south on Highway 48, a few kilometers north of Mount Albert, where Highway 48 passes through low, marshy habitat, there was a Belted Kingfisher on a wire, west side of the road. Doane Road does not intersect Highway 48, but does intersect the northern end of the next major road to the west, which would be either Kennedy Road or an extension of it (I didn't go back to check), this being north of the Mount Albert Sideroad (which in turn is the next major east/west road north of Davis Drive).
