Happy Groundhog Day! Wiarton Willie has
predicted an early spring and the Long-tailed
Ducks agree. They were observed at Southampton,
Wiarton and Dyer's Bay.
The Bruce County Birding Club also saw 20+ Red-
necked Grebe, White-winged Scoter, Common and Red-
breasted Mergansers, Bufflehead, Common
Goldeneye, and Greater Scaup. An adult Bald
Eagle was observed on Chantry Island at
Southampton and an immature over Colpoy's Bay at
Wiarton.
The Snowy Owl on highway 6 at sideroad 10, just
south of Ferndale was observed late in the day
and the Great Grey Owl on Warner Bay road, 1.5
miles west of highway 6 was observed actively
hunting and capturing prey.
An absolutely adorable white ermine with a black
tail tip entertained everyone at a feeder on
Mallory Beach Road.
Good birding,
Cindy Cartwright
