Hi all!
As the weather was so nice yesterday, Penny, Emily and I travelled up to Hwy.#109 hoping to find any of the previously reported 'OOKPIKS'. We spent a good hour cruising the area south of hwy. #9 and east of Hwy.#6 - around #5 Line and #25 Sideroad. Finding only 2 Snow Buntings and a few Rough-legged Hawks we were heading home, when we saw a van parked on #25 about 1/2 Km. west of #5. Scanning the fields to the north with my binoculars, I found a Snowy Owl at the 2nd. fenceline, sitting on what looked like a smallish haypile. Not a great look, even with my 32X Kowa, but much better than a miss. Penny, Emi and the other 2 birders were also happy to see this owl. After taking Emi home to Port Credit, I decided to check out the gulls on the ice in the rivermouth and found 1 'classic' Thayer's, next to a Herring, for a good comparison. The usual ducks, including several Whie winged-Scoters were also present at the waterline. Cheers! Maris
